B205 Mobile Steel Structure Workshop for the King Abdullah Port Project, Saudi Arabia

2026-03-04

Latest company case about B205 Mobile Steel Structure Workshop for the King Abdullah Port Project, Saudi Arabia

On the Persian Gulf coast of Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, a mobile steel structure workshop is redefining the traditional definition of large-scale temporary facilities. This is the B205 mobile steel structure workshop for the King Abdullah Port project, constructed by a Chinese company. Its unique design and flexible construction methods provide reliable protection for open-air operations under the extreme climate conditions of the Middle East.

Innovative Design Breaks with Tradition

The B205 mobile steel structure workshop is a crucial temporary facility for the King Abdullah Port project. Weighing 850 tons, it consists of three independent, separate workshop sections. Each section is 30 meters long, 30 meters wide, and 23 meters high. Such a scale would be considered large even among fixed workshops, yet it possesses the characteristic of being mobile. The workshop's foundation structure innovatively adopts a track-based design, allowing the entire behemoth to move flexibly and smoothly on the tracks, adjusting its position as needed according to the construction progress and operational requirements.

Flexible Configuration to Meet Diverse Needs

Each section of the plant is equipped with two JV cranes, each weighing 14 tons, capable of handling large equipment hoisting and heavy component operations. The electrically operated roller shutters on both sides can be opened independently or combined and moved as a whole, greatly enhancing operational flexibility. When more workspace is needed, the three plant sections can be joined together; when dispersed operations are required, each section can operate independently. This modular and mobile design concept provides a new approach to temporary construction projects for large-scale industrial projects.

Construction Challenges in Extreme Environments

Summer temperatures in Saudi Arabia often soar above 50 degrees Celsius, with even higher surface temperatures. The project team withstood the severe challenges of extreme heat, scientifically scheduling continuous day and night shifts. During the hottest part of the day, technical preparation and component pre-assembly were prioritized, while hoisting and welding operations were concentrated at night when temperatures were relatively lower. Team members overcame adverse factors such as high temperatures, strong winds, and sandstorms, demonstrating high professionalism and unwavering willpower to successfully complete the construction and handover of all plant sections.

Supporting Saudi Arabia's "Vision 2030"

The King Abdullah Port project is a key strategic project for Saudi Arabia to realize its "Vision 2030," aiming to transform Saudi Arabia into a global maritime and logistics hub. The B205 mobile steel structure workshop, a crucial supporting facility for the project, provides flexible and reliable working space for shipbuilding and repair. Its innovative design concept and successful construction practices not only ensured the smooth progress of the main project but also set a new benchmark for temporary construction projects in large-scale industrial projects in Saudi Arabia.

This mobile steel structure workshop, with its unique design, flexible functions, and superior construction quality, showcases the innovative application of steel structure architecture in the industrial field, becoming another significant achievement in Sino-Saudi infrastructure cooperation.
